Montmartre rewards the people who climb slowly. The hill earns the view in stages, and the streets that wind up through it — Rue Lepic, the paths beside the vineyard, the long approach to the steps — hold a kind of quiet that the bottom of the hill doesn't. This walk takes about 75 minutes. Seven stops, seven prompts. Write what you actually notice, not what you came up here to find.
The city is flat here, and then it isn't. The hill rises in front of you faster than you expect, and the dome appears before you've started climbing.
